Keeping your pup’s nails properly trimmed has many health benefits. However, many dog owners are not comfortable doing this task themselves, and many dogs do not like to have their nails trimmed. At Walk! ATX, our Austin professional dog bathers have experience bathing and providing nail care for all types of dogs, and we will make sure your pup is comfortable and happy throughout the whole process.
We offer nail trimming and filing as part of our regular dog bath package. You can bring your dog to our headquarters, or if your residence meets certain qualifications, we can even come to you. Our goal is to make caring for your dog’s nails as easy and comfortable as possible. Contact us today at (512) 655-9557 to schedule a meet and greet or an appointment.
What Sets Us Apart From Others?
In the wild, dogs live in a pack where they support each other and make sure everyone’s needs are met. We try to model the pack idea in the way we care for your dog. As our customer, you and your pup are part of our pack. While some pet care facilities focus on just one aspect, such as boarding or grooming, we have taken a more comprehensive approach that addresses all of your pet’s needs.
Our dog bathers are professionals who absolutely love dogs and will treat your pup as their own. We always go out of our way to help you and your pup have an exceptional experience, no matter what we are helping you with. While dog baths and nail care are very important, we think you will enjoy taking advantage of our many other services as well.
Benefits of Regular Nail Care for Dogs
Taking your dog to “get their nails done” is a lot more than just a fun spa day. While your pup deserves to be treated like royalty, have you ever thought about all the ways having healthy, trimmed nails affect your dog’s overall health?
Your dog uses their claws every day to help run and maneuver, dig, and offer stability as they walk. Keeping your pup’s nails trimmed and well cared for is an important step to helping your dog enjoy an active, healthy life. When a dog’s nails get too long, they are more likely to tear, causing pain to your pup and sometimes expensive veterinarian costs to correct the problem.
However, the risks of having untrimmed nails go beyond the immediate risk of tearing. If left untrimmed for a long time, it can even affect the way your dog walks and its overall posture. The bones in their feet will adjust to compensate for the pressure from long toenails. This creates pressure on the joints and over time can lead to severe joint pain and arthritis.
Common Questions and Answers
Here are the answers to some commonly asked questions you may be wondering about.
How much does it cost to have my dog’s nails trimmed and filed?
We include a nail trim and file as part of our regular dog bath package. The cost of the bath ranges from $25-50 depending on factors such as your dog’s size and coat length. The bath consists of all-natural shampoo and de-shedding conditioner, facial scrub, ear cleaning, nail trim and file, and a blow-dry.
How often should I have my dog’s nails trimmed?
This depends greatly on the type of dog and their lifestyle. Some dogs may need a small trim as often as once a week, while others can go a few months between trims. For example, if your dog takes long walks on pavement, this can grind down the nails so that they will only need occasional trims. However, if your dog is not very active or spends most of their time walking, running, and playing on softer surfaces like dirt or grass, they may need more frequent trims. Additionally, puppies’ nails typically grow much faster than those of older dogs. According to ASPCA, your dog’s nails should almost touch the ground when they walk. If you can hear those nails clicking on the ground, it may be time for a trim.
My dog does not like having its nails trimmed. What can I do to make it easier?
Our dog bathers have experience with all types of dog personalities, and we will do everything we can to make it a comfortable experience for your pup. To help your pup feel more comfortable with having their feet touched, you can try a regular massage at home by rubbing your hand up and down your dog’s leg and gently pressing on each toe. As long as you provide lots of praise and treats, after a couple of weeks of this, your pup should eventually get used to having their feet touched. It may also be helpful to tire them out with vigorous exercise before trimming the nails so they feel more relaxed.
What other services do you offer?
We provide full-service pet care including walks, training, daycare, pet sitting, a pet taxi, and more. We currently do not offer full grooming services or shave downs, but we hope that someday soon we can add that to, our services.
